I was asked to make a video of my Grand Prix's surprisingly rumbly stock exhaust. So I did. This is just the 3100 OHV V6. Enjoy!

OHV? 90 degree V6? What is the redline on one of these?

Considering this was the last model year before the 6th generation came in '97 and this came with a louder exhaust and beefier intake it's not really a surprise when a '96 seems "tuned" even in stock trim compared to the majority of the 5th gen offerings.

Yup and yup. Redline is... like 6k? I think the orange area on the tach is 5500 to 6k. It never lets me actually run it up to 6k though in actual use. Driving it as hard as I can, it'll shift just before or at 5.5k.

Never heard that engine sound that good.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but where have you read that the '96s were any different than the others? I think '94-'96 were roughly the same. I've never noticed any intake differences at least. Harder to tell if the exhaust is different in other cars. Honestly just curious where you may have learned this from. If there's somewhere with more info on these than I've read, I'd love to check it out.

6K? That is pretty impressive actually, given what type of engine it is. My friend has something similar in his Thunderbird and that revs to 5K. . . maybe.

Yeah, the 3100 gets a bad rap for being less reliable than the 3.8, but it's not too bad. 160hp, 185 torque. Enough to squeal the tires, give it torque steer, and feel like you're going somewhere, but not actually enough to get you into trouble quickly. I like it for what it is.

I've heard a couple of same style Grand Prixs go past me before that sounded a little rumblier than I would have expected, but other than that, yeah I'm surprised too. The 3.1 really doesn't sound like that in pretty much anything else.

Haha. My mistake.

You're running the 3100. It was the 3.4 L that gained a few horses in '96 and got a bit louder.

My mistake, it is actually a 60 degree V6.
